PhD Position on specializing LLMs for telecom use cases

The Network Modeling and Optimizing research team of the Advanced Wireless Technology Lab at the Huawei France Research Center, located in the Paris area, together with the Data Science Department at EURECOM, is proposing a

PhD Position on specializing LLMs for telecom use cases

to join the Network Modeling and Optimizing research team. This PhD overall objective is to design a framework able to enhance standard LLMs to effectively support telecom use cases, such as intent-to-policy mapping, telecom-chatbot to support research or software engineers, network fault analysis and management.

What are your main responsibilities?

·Overview of LLMs to understand their architecture, capabilities and limitations

·Study of the literature on telecom use cases for LLMs

·Study, deploy, and test state of the art LLM optimization techniques

·Highlight limitations and advantages of existing LLM optimization techniques, and define a methodology to evaluate the performance of the studied solutions

·Modelling the problem of LLM specialization in telecom use case

·Develop a theoretical framework to derive guidelines on algorithm design and performance bounds

·Design of solutions to specialize LLMs in telecom use cases

·Maintain Huawei’s leadership in innovation and technical advancement by patenting new ideas and publishing in high quality journals and conferences which are of interest for the machine learning research domain and top journals in both the machine learning and network domains

• Recently obtained Master Degree / Master of Science in Computer Science, Applied Mathematics, Operations Research, or other related fields

• Expertise in algorithm design for data-driven AI/ML modelling
• Expertise in Python libraries for deep learning and optimization
• Expertise on libraries for data analysis and processing is a plus
• Hands-on experience with large datasets is a plus
• Hands-on experience with Transformer-based architecture, LLMs, and related environment is a plus
• Knowledge of wireless network is a plus
• Expertise in Generative AI is a plus
• Creative, with excellent organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills.
